I was aghast that some aspiring author would dismiss the notion of reading until I saw the comparison "it would be like someone studying to be an elementary teacher who doesn't like kids"

Well from my brief time lurking in child-free-friendly spaces I know that there ARE quite a few people who want to be teachers who proudly proclaim they do not like children.

Writing and not reading would be like me drawing and not examining other artists' work and techniques. How else are you going to grow if you don't see what else is out there?
