[It's still painful, but Shikamaru's gotten pretty good at hiding it by now. He just sighs and nods.]

Like I said, Hidan is a member of Akatsuki. It all started when he and his partner attacked the Fire temple. Teams were sent out to locate them and the one I was on got lucky. [He shakes his head.] We weren't prepared for them and my sensei was killed.

... How much do you know about Hidan's abilities?

[Shika nods. There's not much he can say... He knows exactly how it feels, though.]

I know that he's immortal to the extent that he can heal from any wound with enough time. There's also this... ritual he does, I guess. We haven't experimented with it very much, but I know that if he ingests my blood, he'll be able to make me experience whatever injuries he receives. He's like a walking voodoo doll. That's what you're talking about, right?

Exactly. He uses the blood ritual to kill, but it's more than just inflicting wounds and healing from his own. Hidan, in my world anyway, is literally immortal. I watched him get beheaded, bitch while his partner stuck his head back on, and then come at us again like nothing had happened. Makes traditional battle strategies a bit difficult.

[There's a flash of frustration.]

We had to retreat and regroup, and I set out with a new team about a week later.

[That sounded right. Seras was always reattaching his limbs after their "domestic squabbles". He takes on a pensive expression, considering how he'd counter something like that if he and Hidan were ever on opposite sides instead of partners.]
