This was certainly turning out to be a strange birthday. Not that Shikamaru had hoped for any normalcy to it. A year ago, he couldn't have imagined that his life would turn out like this. A year ago, he'd just been an average kid living at home with his dad, focused mostly on not flunking out of school. Now... he was preparing to welcome his shinobi sensei home to the apartment he shared with his not-boyfriend and a mute girl with real angel wings when their friend had just gone missing following a televised game of murder ( ... )

To be honest, Itachi had been contemplating about not venturing into the other’s at all -- and still, with himself walking through the streets with hues that were dulled to a neutral gray, he could feel the tension of suffocating creating a thick wall around him, closing in him at every moment. And it was pain, and it hurt, and it made him unintentionally tremble in his weakened state. Eyes were embedded with red lines indicating bloodshot, noticeably coiling the centre of gray that was a substitute for the brilliant red pupil. "Huh?" Yosuke halted in his cleaning to turn back to Shika; shaken out of his spacing from the comment that he wasn't going to be around for the whole night. He stared at him for a moment, before realizing what was going on. He had seen that Network post from Hidan -- and it was best if he just nodded rather than say anything else that he thought about it. Nothing was ever going to be okay about what went on between him and Hidan, but this was the way they were. The way they would have to be. Shikamaru knew Yosuke didn't like it but it wasn't going to change. If it hadn't been clear before, then it definitely became clear during Battle Royale. The more he thought about it, the harder it was to get the image of Yosuke's bullet-punctured corpse out of his mind ( ... )
