"Waargh." The door of the building was more or less shoved open as Yosuke fell through it. Really, the heat of the summer was all right in the morning, but that didn't mean that it wasn't still unbearable -- just slightly less unbearable. He would have stayed as he was if he didn't realize and remember that people would see him in his prone state

It was Ryou's good fortune that this encounter happened before he obtained his cup of coffee, because the unexpected appearance of his estranged younger sibling at the police station might have been enough of a shock to cause the normally composed Ryou to drop his drink. As it was, he barely managed to school his features and keep from uttering Yosuke's name in surprise.

In the recoil, though, Ryou's disposition became even colder than usual. "I don't know who you're referring to," came his icy reply, "but you are not permitted to be wandering around in this area unsupervised. Return to the front desk and give the secretary your delivery, and also explain that Mr. Nara needs a review in protocol regarding visitors."

"Wait, wait, wait!" His hands came out to wave the lunch and hand in the man's face. He really didn't want to get Shika in trouble, that wasn't why he came here at all. "He didn't know that I was coming. So this really isn't his fault. Don't get mad at him, okay? I seriously think I might be banned from ever visiting if that were the case." Yosuke let out a soft laugh, hoping that the officer would find it as funny as he did. Though, it really didn't seem like the guy had much of a sense of humor.

"Besides, I temporarily wanted to become a detective, so it's like I already work here." Detective, ninja, anything that could help the citizens of this city feel safer. He really hoped that his gungho attitude and cheerful disposition would mean that Shika and he would be off the hook of any trouble.

It was somewhat difficult to pay attention to the words Yosuke was saying. This was the first time they'd spoken in ten years. And although Ryou understood the effectiveness of rewriting memories, and that plenty of time had passed for a traumatized young boy to forget the past on his own, he still had trouble believing that his little brother didn't appear to feel any sense of connection between them at all.

It was a relief. And at the same time, it hurt. Ryou wanted this conversation to be over as quickly as possible so that he could fade into the background of Yosuke's life once more, and Yosuke could continue to live in relative happiness and total ignorance.

None of this did anything to soften his demeanor. "You do not work here, and you should be banned from visiting. This is not a place of social gathering."
