Nataku had watched such odd scenes come on the television, interrupting the programing that he wanted to watch. He also did not understand the announcement that occurred -- seventy-nine residents? Were there not more? A statement like that 'they' are always watching was also odd. Would not Johan know about such surveillance? In the end, he would leave the matter for others to contemplate as such complexity went over the child's head. All he knew was that he did not remember the scene that featured him in his memories. There was an odd feeling like it had happened, but that was impossible ( ... )

Kirin took a moment to compose himself - not that it was much, really - before he rolled off the bed and shuffled to the door. Behind the screen dividing his sleeping quarters from the "main" room of his apartment, he left a mess of tools as he'd tried to distract himself by playing with a handful of second rate rubies he still had left over his deal with Sadiq, but it hadn't been much use since now he couldn't get his eye to close. Running a nervous hand over his bangs, he let his fingers run along each side of the large eye on his forehead, almost as if to coax the lids to close. He left it alone, though, and finally opened the door, looking paler than usual. His gaze drifted to look into the room, at the state of disarray that it was in. He supposed that this was just what humans did when they were upset. To bring some mess to the environment around them so that they could feel more at ease. This was a concept that Nataku did not understand, and perhaps, he was not understanding it as good as he should. He did take in the sight of Kirin. His expression was almost as it always was when he was observing, except slightly saddened that his friend seemed to still not be quite himself. Gazed at the large eye that was looking back at him, he blinked. He could not remember it ever being open. Had it not always been covered? Should he continue to stare? He did not know ( ... )

Kirin's good eye - the blue one - dropped down to the offering, a wry smile tugging at his lips, but the large, reddish brown iris remained intent on Nataku. Kirin supposed he was too tense and feeling too threatened for it to cooperate. He took the jar and stepped back, motioning Nataku to come in before he spoke.

"I'm..." he hesitated, for a moment, before sighing. Nataku was a friend, and even though he felt he could trust him, he wasn't someone to open up very easily about things. "I'm not," he admitted, finally, "fine, I mean."
