Dante stood outside the police headquarters, sighing at the very sight of it. It had been awhile, ironically, since he had last been here as a citizen looking to see someone. Usually, he was stopping by with some new criminal to drop off for Gilver's little jobs he had him running nightly. But otherwise, it was a place he avoided, considering he really didn't want to end up behind bars anytime soon ( ... )

"Oh most definitely. Which is why I'm dying for a vacation soon, I really need the break to practice and stuff." He's going to be vague on things since he wasn't sure if Bigby knew about his father and his heritage just yet. Besides, might be weird to just come out and say he was a half-demon who needed to practice using weapons ( ... )

It would have brought a pause to the conversation, yes. As it is the wolf just nods with no small degree of understanding. He'd been lucky to get the time off to be able to take a break, himself. Now it was all paperwork and interrogations again. He liked his job of course, he wouldn't have fought so hard to get into Terra only to wind up in a profession he hated, but the little things sometimes rubbed his fur the wrong way. A predatory part of him would far rather hunt the criminals down and tear them apart rather than deal with the red tape.

Bigby grinned. "I won't argue with that." Far be it from him to refuse a free drink.

He could sense that disquiet, and allowed the younger man a good pause to collect himself. Siblings were a pain in general-- he knew that better than anyone. But he also knew Dante's relationship with Vergil was different. There were more issues involved. The incident with his case, for example. "And you wanted to know if anyone was still looking into it?" he guessed.

Which is probably why Dante loved his job - as a bounty hunter, he had no qualms about holding back against any sort of criminals. Sometimes it was fun just to shoot them in the kneecaps while you took care of them, and Dante wouldn't give up his job for awhile. He just had to be really careful around the police he did talk to, since Bigby would probably have to arrest him, and he didn't want that in the least.

"Good. Cause there was no argument there in the first place."

Dante nods, looking up to him expectantly, "Any leads or anything? I mean, he's still got to be out there. I don't even want to go back home, considering I'd probably throttle Vergil if I had the chance. I just want to know why, that's all."

Considering Bigby's stance on justice in the city, a little vigilantism on known criminals wouldn't be taken too hard.

His brown eyes took a sympathetic cast. "Nothing. Not yet. I'm sorry, Dante, I am. To tell you the truth I haven't had much time to look at it between other cases since I'm working it unofficially. But I'll keep at it. ...And tell me the truth, what would you do if you found out?" Bigby thought he might know the answer.

Then maybe Dante might tell him, he wouldn't mind Bigby knowing. He just...doesn't want to get arrested, that's all. Especially considering that, in the long run, he was doing a favor for the city.

Dante nods, sighing, "I didn't expect you to have anything. Not that it's your fault, but it's been a long while since anything has happened on it." He gives a smirk at that, shaking his head. "Well, depends. I might just kill them. I might not. It mainly depends on who it is and why. I mean, why would you frame a fourteen year old for murder?"

"Since I'm the only one still working it, I don't see why it wouldn't be my fault." He paused, putting out his cigarette in the ash tray as he spotted their waiter approaching-- and this time with food and a bottle of whiskey.

He thanked the server, and once the man left again redirected his attention to Dante. "The responsible thing for me to say as a member of law enforcement is that killing is bad." Bigby decided not to say what he felt on a personal level. He shrugged at the speculation, starting to cut into his meat. "Everything starts with motive. Whoever it was had to have something to gain from pushing you out of Elysium."

"Heh, you got a point. But still, it's fine. It's practically a cold case at this point so not much I can do on it." Dante smiles once the food is delivered, his mouth watering over just the very smell. But before he digs in, he pours them both a glass of whiskey, downing it before he looks to Bigby, laughing.

"I know it is, but I'm sure you understand the reasoning. I'll do my best not to, Bigby." Besides, he was known for being one of the few underground hunters that didn't kill their prey, which he was rather proud of. He takes a bit of his steak, almost moaning at the taste before he looks up to him. "What could possibly be gained by pushing a fourteen-year-old out of Elysium?"

It was good steak. Thick, hot, and dribbling with juices. It was almost hard to focus on the conversation past the burst of flavor. Bigby manages to swallow a mouthful before nodding and thanking Dante for the poured glass. Whiskey was an excellent chaser to good steak. But then he found whiskey an excellent chaser to most things. Or starter, depending on his mood. He stole a glance at the bottle's label, making sure to remember the brand-- it was a smooth liquor.

"That's all I ask. And if I knew that," Bigby sighed heavily, "I wouldn't have trouble solving the case. That's where I've hit a roadblock. I have some guesses, but they're vague at best and I'd rather not work you up over anything I'm not sure about. You told me your family didn't have many enemies, right?"

Dante doesn't blame him for zoning out in the least, the steak was absolutely AMAZING. He smiles a bit at Bigby before he downs his next glass of whiskey, starting to feel just a tinge of a buzz. Well, considering his blood, it was going to take a lot more than that to ever get him drunk, but he was going to try.

"I'll do my best." Dante takes another bite of steak, chewing it thoughtfully before he swallows it, shrugging. "Honestly, I don't think there were but considering how dad disappeared and mom was killed, there has to be someone, I'm guessing. But if that's the case, why would they just get rid of me and not Vergil too?"

He shook his head. "I don't have an answer for you. Maybe they had something set up for him that didn't follow through-- a lot of effort was put into framing you. Maybe pulling off the same trick twice was too much. It could have been an inheritance issue. Whatever it was, I don't think it had anything to do with the politician who was killed. Choosing you as a patsy would be too random."

He left a pause, taking another bite and swallowing before nodding towards Dante's plate. "S'good?"

Another bite, another slight whimper at how good it was. He takes a sip of whiskey, thinking it over. "But what would be the point of getting me out of the way and giving Vergil everything? He's got little to no personality, I don't know who it would benefit in the end. Vergil's got smarts about him, it would be worse to leave him in there since he'd pick up anything before people could put it through."

Dante takes another bite, chewing it slowly to try and savor the taste before looking to Bigby's plate. "Yeah, very. Yours any good considering it's raw?"

The wolf paused, eyes somewhat hooded. Bigby had budding suspicions there, but there was no chance he was sharing them with Dante at the moment. Something like that needed evidence to back it up. It was a strong accusation, and not to be mentioned offhandedly. "Yeah, none of it makes much sense. But if it did I guess I wouldn't be having this trouble figuring things out."

He snorted, lifting his gaze again. "It's a lot better than it would have been if I'd let them burn the flavor out of it."

Dante had pondered his brother possibly doing it for a long time, but he really didn't think that he could have. Well, he may have, but really, there was no way he held that much sway over the estate already and that many people who wanted him out of there. Either way, he just wants to know, "I might even be back up in Elysium. But in the long run, I think I might stay in Terra, I've just become accostumed to the place."

Smirking, he takes another bite, savoring the flavor again before laughing, "It's not burnt out, it's just as delicious. Have you ever tried medium rare or do you just prefer all your meat raw?"

Bigby nodded, agreeing with him. "If I was able to choose I'd still choose Terra. It has its' problems, but I'm not one for glittering streets and toilets. Call me old fashioned. You adjusted well to living here," he added. He knew it had been a shock when Dante was first moved down.

"I've tried it." He waved a hand, smirking as he took a drink. "Not interested. If it isn't still bleeding a little it's no good."

"Elysium is just not all it's made out to be. It's boring since everything is so perfect. Terra has problems, it has interesting things to do, it has more meat and life to it than Elysium. And thanks, I think I have too." He takes another bite of steak, smiling. It had been a shock when he first moved down, but he had gotten used to it. Terra was just a culture shock for him because people were so independant.

"Man, if you could, you'd just eat the cow while it was alive, wouldn't you?" Yes, just like a wolf...
