The ground was shaking, although the tremors seemed mild and not so frequent. In the Abyss such abnormalities in nature weren't too uncommon though, but Deidara did wonder when the shakes continued further into the morning just what was going on. He had never been one of those people that was better on their feet, he preferred the air by far, so to avoid being jostled about he had flown to the junkyard, a route that should have had him there early but for his frequent detours to gaze at the land below to try and determine the level of the quakes as they happened ( ... )

Minatsuki was getting impatient. The bastard was late, and the tremors - while fairly mild - didn't seem to be stopping. Although used to it to a degree, it was still fucking unsettling. At least in the junkyard, there was some semblance of open space.

She went ahead and pricked her ears, allowing her blood to mix. There wasn't much of a point since the fucking rat bastard didn't appear to be showing up, but she felt a little better than way, bleeding. Maybe he was standing her up. Minatsuki had to admit that wasn't a terrible prospect; she wasn't really looking forward to this anymore, and rubbing his cowardice in his face would be fun.

To start things out, Deidara thought he might make things a little interesting. After all, they'd set a date, right? And it was only right for the gentleman to bring the lady a gift. He wondered if Minatsuki liked centipedes? Well, there was only one way to find out.

Reaching his left hand into the pouch at his hip Deidara extracted a clay creature with a long body and several tiny little legs. The object was still for a moment... until Deidara charged it with his chakra. All at once the little insect made of his clay and his energy sprung to life, feet kicking, body wriggling. It didn't make a sound, but it was beautiful in his eyes... and deceptively deadly. By no means to be compared to his C-4, of course, but on par with the power of a hand grenade.

He circled the girl once more... before dropping the clay centipede. His aim was perfect, and the little bug missed her by an inch, landing at her feet with a rather animated little thud sound. Quickly it crawled toward the back of her feet as if hoping to run rampant up ( ... )

She felt the -- the thing a moment before she heard Deidara yell; by the time he did, she had already let her hair, pre-bloodied, loose and diving at it with the intention of smashing it to bits before it could move or do anything else.

As she did it, she remembered suddenly her suspicions that he had been the one to bomb her apartment; she realized and used her powers to kick the thing away, jumping backwards a foot or two and using her hair to try and deflect as much of the explosion as possible if that was in fact what was about to happen--

--it did. And while her branch of sin was more than able to deflect physical attacks, explosions were somewhat different. Enough of the blast was deflected that she didn't lose a limb, but her legs, both of them, were fairly badly burnt and torn. She staggered backwards more, unsteady on her feet.

"Piece of SHIT!" she yelled, incoherent with rage. Her power couldn't safely be extended up to reach the asshole circling above her, so she'd have to see if he'd land.

Chuckling to himself, Deidara couldn't help but be proud at his surprise attack. Of course he wondered why Minatsuki had gone and pricked her ears, but for all he knew it was because she was the kind of psycho that liked pain -- at least, that was until he saw her hair. It was fascinating, but he knew all too well now not to get too close.

His expertise did not lie in melee combat. He was better at long-range confrontation... Although, he supposed he might have some advantage over this girl, even up close. Hair burned, didn't it? And, judging by the results of the blast upon Minatsuki's skin... her flesh burned, too.

He came lower as another tremor shot through the ground, rattling some of the junk piles around them. He waited for it to cease before leaping off of his clay bird and landing -- but he kept his distance, still. "Does it hurt?" he inquired. "Just remember, you asked for this, un."

"It won't hurt as much as you will," Minatsuki replied sweetly; now that he was on the ground, she felt much more assured. She let him keep his distance, willing to play defensive until he got close enough that she could flay him before he even knew it was coming.

Another small tremor rippled under her feet; not too strong, but noticeable and off-putting. God, she hoped this would be fast. Sensing that he had no intention of coming closer, she skipped towards him a few paces, making no signs of attack.

The forward approach was sign of attack enough for Deidara; the man wasn't particularly hard to provoke, anyways. He kept an eye on that wild mane of hair, but he didn't retreat. Standing his ground rather boldly, Deidara extended a hand... beckoned with a finger for the girl to come closer... and then rudely opened his palm to reveal the mouth upon it and waggled the tongue in her exact direction.

"You're all talk, un. I'd like to see some action. The ground's givin' up more of a fight than you are!" With the other hand the shinobi withdrew another clay insect from his pouch, this one shaped much like a grasshopper. He had a plan. Executing it, on the other hand, would possibly prove to be... a challenge.

Minatsuki kept skipping forward, rolling her eyes at but otherwise ignoring Deidara's words, until she was just in range for her own powers: far enough he couldn't reach her without having to move forward, but close enough that she could - barely - reach out with her powers, safely anyway. Ignoring her legs, which throbbed and hurt but weren't going to kill her.

She smirking, coming to an abrupt stop and, grinning, sending her Whip Wing after him, several strands of blood and hair sharper than any blade - and far, far faster. "Dodge that, shitface!" she crowed at the moment she launched her strike.

Deidara's eyes flew open; that hair was coming at him fast. Of course he had dealt with fast opponents before, but never had he been forced to fight... hair. It surpassed being odd, but he was no stranger to the unordinary. He still believed a little fire would put him in the lead...

He lunged to the right quickly, his chakra racing into the clay creature in his hands. If he could stay ahead long enough, somehow manage not to get cut to ribbons, then he'd be able to send the hopping little insect her way and make her retreat again, hopefully just as comedically as she had earlier.

Minatsuki wasn't terribly concerned when he dodged; she merely pulled her attack back and redirected it at him, retreating backwards a few steps to keep the maximum distance between them. There were ranged attacks to be considered if he kept this up, but that would be a waste of blood, and she'd rather not risk it for now.

She was almost impressed that he could see her attacks fast enough to dodge them completely - but mostly just annoying. She intensified her attack, no longer trying to stab Deidara and now trying to bind him in ropes of her hair. She was confident: his hit on her had been part accident and part cheating, and if that was the only trick he knew, Minatsuki was sure she'd tear him to shreds. It was only a matter of time.
