The incident with Nataku only reinforced Nina's need to escape. There was only so much time until one of the residents finally killed her or worse, and the only thing still keeping her was the fact that they might kill her faster if she tried to leave. Still, she was getting out in just a few days, and was using the time she had left to scan the mansion one more time for weak points or ways to take it down, which had lead her to the basement. The foundations were the main point of attack, after all.

Her wanderings were interrupted from noises from behind one of the doors. For a moment she hesitated, but finally she pushed open the door slowly, peering cautiously into the room.

What she saw nearly made her scream. A man, beaten and broken and aching, and - oh God, she recognized him. A teacher she had had once. What was he doing here? What had happened?!

She stepped in slowly, shaking with fear, not even trying to speak because she knew the right words wouldn't come.

The slat of dim lighting fell upon the floor, coloring the room a murky tinge, and the reaction was immediate. (Get away from me.) A narrow-eyed glance at whoever had intruded, a lunge against the chains that held him back, a choked gasp as the restraints held fast, slamming him against the floor as he pulled taut against them.

"What do you want from me?" It was a furious growl, words crackling with static, accompanied by a livid stare -- wild, unfocused. For a moment, all rational thought had vanished, leaving only raw emotion -- anger, fear, bitter hatred towards any living person. (Why do you deserve to live

The reaction scared Nina, and she stepped back, panic flashing across her face for a moment. But slowly she calmed. She'd react the same way, were she in the same situation. She had been getting steadily more paranoid, and if she had been abused to the level this man had, surely she would be just as upset.

"N-Nina Fortner," she managed. "I... was in your class ages ago. W-which of them did this to you?" Slowly she started to approach the other again, although she remained cautious.

"Don't. Come near me." Words somewhere between a hiss and a snarl, and Nagi forced himself on all fours, backing away as the other approached. "Please -- don't come near me." (I don't know what I'll do to you.)

Nina Fortner. A name he remembered vaguely. Yes, a student, that made sense. From before all this happened. Several years ago. -- what was she doing here? Come to think of it, Nataku had mentioned that there was another prisoner here. Was it her? Pushing aside the myriad of questions, he paused, gathering what thoughts he had left, before answering slowly. Trying to keep himself sane. "... Genkaku. He'll be back, later. -- why are you here?"
