So for the past few weeks, I've been searching for quality gay sci/fi fantasy fiction where 1) the gay male is the primary protagonist. 2) the story is not a romance and/or a straight woman's fetish 3) it's devoid of heterosexist bile ( Read more... )

Getting 1 is extremely hard. Getting 2 is already nigh impossible. In ANY genre. All 3? Hah *cynic* I'd be AMAZINGLY surprised - again, in ANY genre. Sci-fi/fantasy? I doubt it

Maybe some niche works - expressly by gay men for gay men (and even then that can be hard since people writing for 2 have often made false identities) maybe. But mainstream? I doubt it. I really do.

LOL! Agreed. Like I said, Holy Grail.

Aside from Torchwood or even QAF, here's some other items I own:

The movies: The Sensei and Rights of Passage fit the bill though they aren't speculative fiction but very good all the same.

Books: Perry Moore's Hero (which is one of my personal favorite novels)

Graphic novels: Midnighter series, Daken: Dark Wolverine
