I think the wider scape helps, but that they both look a little to Star-ish. (Especially since The Star doesn't actually, um, have a star.) Might not be a problem if you are planning to make Mars reddish.

I'm hoping that once I fill the sky more densely with stars like in the concept thumbnail, it'll keep Mars from being overly attention-stealing. Yes/no?

I like the further away one, but since the card itself will be smaller in size, I think the close-up one will be (a) sufficiently lonely, and (b) keep Firenze as the main focal point of the card.
