Potter Popularity Poll Part 2

Sep 05, 2007 00:35

I always wanted to repeat my character popularity poll after DH, actually longer after DH, but as it's currently unclear how long and in which form my population (lj fandom) will continue to exist ( Read more... )

A character you could fit into the sentences "I am a ___ fan!" "God, ____ is so awesome" for whatever reason. You don't have to meet any of them, not even for the second poll. ;) I guess the question is, how much do you like Tonks' personality and Snape's characterization, enough to click "I like" or not. You can clarify your reasoning a bit in the second poll.

I've hated dumbledore since he planned sirius' death in book 5, I've been saying it for years after that, that he's a manipulating asshole and that he isn't the caring old granddad he makes himself out to be. after rereading all the books I knew he baited harry into wanting to fulfill the prophesy and "willingly" become the hero, he set everyone up to fall in line to his plan, and I hated him for it. even though my love for Sirius has been quelled I still find it a bitter taste in my mouth. and to add to the insult most people think he's still a great guy. blah!

I used to defend the guy saying that he did it all for the greater good... You can imagine that DH send chills down my spine! I mean, I guess the "greater good" excuse still stands somehow, but I'm not going to argue that any longer!

He definitely lost some points with fandom, it seems.

Especially Harry, well after Harry GOT the big clue. Harry never got to grow up, and I hated that about his characterization. He never got to grow up and think for himself even a little. And I despise Dumbledore.

I just read through some of your LJ and I have to say I agree with pretty much all your views on DH. Ron "Mother F***ing" Weasley, can suddenly speak Parselmouth... My brain just seizured when I read that, because it's something supposedly only truly evil wizards know to do(his own words!). Mind Numbing!

This was really difficult for me in terms of Snape. I can't say that after DH I still think he's interesting as a character - the many dimensions he seemed to possess have well and truly been taken away, or at least there were for me, by the inane Lily Love plot. He came out as less ingenious, less rebellious, less undertaking, less clever, and much less Slytherin than he seemed before; he seemed to have only one motivation and he was no more than Dumbledore's tool. When I'd finished the book I felt that I didn't like Snape at all anymore. So - well, he used to be my favourite character, with Dumbledore as a close second. But in DH I hated Dumbledore and lost interest in Snape.

The odd thing is that, in books 1 to 6, Snape is still my favourite character. It's just as if he is a completely different person in 7 ( ... )

Yeah, Luna and Neville are the characters almost nobody has any complaints about. I'm sure that's largely because of their small roles.

At first I was also a bit shocked to what extent Snape was Dumbledore's tool, even though I always thought that the "Dumbledore's man through and through" stuff in HBP was a hint about Snape (and being sombody's man through and through is definitely not being independent!). I still think he is one fascinating tool! Then I always loved the suffering competent dark knight character, and I think they're seldom as well rounded as Snape.

Just some drive-by geek love for all of the graphs and statistics in the second poll. Very interesting results, indeed.
