just the one thing

Because more than this, and I'll start ranting like an insane woman.

The House of Representatives passed the new health care bill, as given, in a sweeping late Saturday session...because of the rider banning federal funds to be used for abortions.

Yeah, just let that sink in...I'll be over in the corner, looking for knives and coffee.

medical, human rights, anger, stupid people

Federal funds haven't been used for abortion since the Hyde amendment of 1979.

Not directly, no. But clinics that cater to a lower-income population receive, often, federal matching funds. That rider would remove those funds.

I think part of the problem are false Democrats. Representatives who hold world-views directly opposed to what are traditionally democratic ideals. Like Joe Lieberman.

Of course, even the most solid foundation can be shaken with the offers of millions in special interest funds to themselves, their constituents or their home districts...

And I agree that the provision is horrible, and I hope we can do better in what finally goes to the President to sign.

Getting something passed is better than getting nothing, and the retarded anti-womans-rights amendments can be fixed later as our nation drags itself out of the dark ages. For now, I'll take the bill, even amended, over losing this opportunity to get health coverage for everyone. After all, once the 2010 elections take the Democrats majority vote away (pessimistically speaking), we won't be getting a chance for a while...

I tend to agree with both of you, and personally, I just want to see something that covers more people. A healthier population means a more able population, by and large; I can't see any way around that.
