Meanwhile, get yourself a really solid knee-brace to immobilize it as much as possible, a walker (thrift stores often have them for cheap) and a good solid cane for when the walker's not possible. I know, it sucks to have to use a walker, but you'll be glad later that you did, because the less new damage you do to the knee, the better it will heal. That nauseating pain is a sign of damage happening; ignoring it is only going to buy you more pain further down the road.
Anyway, good luck, hon; you're in my thoughts.

1. No insurance means no surgery. No insurance also means my knee brace (which yes, I should wear more, but is starting to break down) cannot be replaced.
2. I have arthritis: osteo, not rheumatoid, but it's there, in both knees. I (again, not as often as I should) use a cane; not a walker, for reasons both of inaccessibility (it's up in the rafters of the garage) and pride (I in my own mind will have to give up and admit to being crippled beyond repair). Is this good for me? Likely not.
One of the doctors at the free clinic has suggested steroid injections, with a very long and scary needle. To date, I'm pushing that off.
