So I come back from the doctor's today, with okay news (they think I'm fine on thyroid replacement now, I'm out of blood tests every six weeks, yay) and weird news (they're pretty convinced I have sleep apnea, and it's getting worse, and with no insurance, getting a sleep study? Kind of hard to do ( Read more... )

I had to have steroids this summer, but not injected. I got sun rash at the People's Fair, and the hives got worse, and eventually I got a skin infection. And oh dear gods, did it itch! I was so miserable! So the doctor prescribed Clindamycin to clear up the skin infection -- which was still itching, and causing chunks of skin to fall off. I looked scary.

Three days later, I notice new hives. Sure enough, I was allergic to the Clindamycin and was breaking out in new very itchy hives. I had to beg for steroids -- and until they took effect, I was itching too badly to sleep, eat, or do anything but whimper and itch.

Steroids can help, but they are a drastic measure. Better than surgery, though.

Hmm, you might check with any sleep associations you can find -- there may be a way to get you a used CPAP. I don't have any pointers, but since I've been on one for almost 10 years now, I highly recommend it for getting adequate rest.

See, my main problem is, we have a CPAP machine that the upstairs folks donated, after watching me not sleep, and not sleep well, for the better part of a year.

The first night we finally got it rigged up to try it, I had a panic attack at the air forced in through my nose, talked myself down, fell asleep--then turned over and woke up crying when I pulled the entire machine down on my head.

So now I can't go near that machine, because my body screams dangernodangerNO! every time I do. (Which is fine, because Cat uses it, and she's getting better sleep now.)

But there's this thing called Project Access--my clinic gave me paperwork I need to fill out, see if I get approved. If I do, they'll fund a sleep study, and likely the CPAP machine that comes after. So that might work out.
