did you ever read what I wrote you?

When I first heard this video, Nightwish's latest, off the first album recorded with Anette Olzen after Tarja's departure, I was quite disappointed. There was just no way to slot the lead singer in as any sort of relevance in voice to Tarja, and it felt like a hollowing loss ( Read more... )

I wish she didn't act so bouncy-peppy like a pop star. But she does have a good voice. Her movements don't fit though.

They don't. I've been looking around at other vids now, focusing on Anette, and it's like she wandered straight of a Vixen video.

Very intriguing article on Jehovah's Witnesses, childbirth, and religion.

I found it interesting that there ARE ways to work around that for people who (seem to) want to save their child but the religion is - well, honestly - getting in the way. Reading the article on boston.com from the doctor I thought was even more interesting. That the parents still talk to him speaks miles for what it sounds like the parents really wanted, despite their situation.

Yeah, I was hoping people would catch that, and read the longer article. Because that's the heart of the story, right there--"We can't do this." "Your child will die." "Then give us a way to get around this, because...we can't do this."

And yes--I adore that they've kept in touch, that they became friends, in spite of their differences. That speaks volumes about the integrity of both that doctor, but those parents.

I defy you to see Nightwish live with Anette and continue to think that she is a poor fit for the band. Her voice isn't the same as Tarja's, but you can tell that the band is actually having a great time and a ton of fun up on stage, as opposed to just being there to sing and be done with it.

What it sounds like, honestly, from everything I've been able to put together? Is that they've been suffering for quite some time, and now that Tarja's gone, they're recovering, starting to have fun being a band again, and not Tarja's backup performers.

Much as I preferred Tarja as a vocalist, I think I'm one of the fans who's going to turn, and focus more on Nightwish now, see what happens.

Precisely. Tarja was stifling them. At the end of shows she actually used to go immediately to the airport so she could fly back to wherever in Canada she had her current beau staying rather than staying with rest of the band. Pretty amazingly selfish / elitist. The amount of awesomeness gained from a live show where the band is enjoying themselves may not be quantifiable, but it is definitely noticeable. Even if Dream Theater may have been a technically better show, the last Nightwish concert I went to was definitely the most enjoyable concert I've ever been to.

Also, she really does a damn good job on Tarja's songs, all things considered. She doesn't have Tarja's raw talent, perhaps, but she did better than I'd really imagined she would, and I didn't have a poor opinion of her to start.
