...it's definitely time to go home.

Btw, a whole pack of cops-in-boats were dragging the river on Friday night, as I came home from the Geek. Didn't hear anything about why, today. It's a tad worrisome.

Medical stuph, but for once...not mine. )

Wow...cops dragging the river for corpses is a rarity and something of note down there? God, I cannot wait to get there!!

I have been creaming myself looking at houses all morning. Cappy wants me to knock it off because he doesn't like me showing him stuff he's going to want that will be off the market by the time we're actually ready to buy something...but it decreases my anxiety to go "look...there are houses...this will work"...

We are packing our house (you would not believe how different it looks, by the way...completely redid the bathroom and changed a lot of stuff around...Cappy should post pics at some point) and it's starting to feel like we don't live here.

It sounds like his job won't start for a while...late summer, maybe...so, we are conisidering a plan wherein I go ahead and move...get the house settled, get a job and all that...and then he'll join me once his stuff is settled...

Which is cool, but oh, you will have lonely.

Save for we'll be closer.

Where are the houses you've been drooling ove? I want to know what neighborhood you're thinking of invading moving into.

actually, that's something I should probably talk to you guys about. It's kind of hard trying to figure all this out since we don't know the area. We know for sure it will be a suburb south of Portland because Cappy will be commuting to Salem. We'd been looking at Tualatin/Tigard area...we exed Beverton because we'd heard the traffic is terrible getting to the highway...
I've pretty much been looking all around the south area, even in Gladstone. We're trying to strike a balance between places where we can afford to buy a good sized house and places that have decent schools (but not good schools, we can't afford that...haha) while still being within commuting distance to Salem (meaning that Cappy can get there in 45 minutes if he gets a page in the middle of the night) and while still having Portland as our hub for evenings out and, probably, for my place of employment.......

I know it sounds picky and impossible, but I think (with a compromise here and there) we should be able to work it out.

Well, you can't go wrong here, at least for casual perusal. This (warning: .pdf file) is a mileage map for the state that goes into brief but effective detail. While we're at it, here's a profile on Tualatin and another on Sherwood.

As pretty as parts of it are, yeah, Beaverton's become a traffic nightmare. And--while I'm sure you have the grace and elegance to fit in anywhere--I'm thinking you'd probably enjoy life more in Sherwood, and then Tualatin, over Gladstone and Tigard. Reasoning is Sherwood is a suburb and knows it, that grew from a small town, and Tualatin is former farming land turned to commerce. Tigard is trying to be the next snobbish little patch of real estate (a la Lake Oswego), and Gladstone is pretty much Otis Orchards with a higher median income--suburban groves and a church on every corner, sometimes facing another church!

On the other hand, you could do worse than Hillsboro, looking in the opposite direction. It's no longer farm country, anymore, but it also still feels like a small town. Avoid that ( ... )
