I decided I was going to stand UP and participate

Whoopi Goldberg's on the TV, talking about the power of change. "Do you participate on your knees," she asked, "or do you stand up and participate in your life? I decided I was going to stand up and participate."

Hells, yes.

First five paragraphs of what's going to be a terrifying July Year in the Life entry under my belt, folks in the know. ( Read more... )

Hi. Since you mentioned me by name (ok...actually when I read "nukes in Iran"), I said "Harle, are we planning to USE nuclear weapons?" (outraged)

The Harlequin replied with about 15 minutes of ranting about unfounded reporting, mentioned that the White House is FURIOUS because it goes against everything we stand for, (Bush apparently made a speech this afternoon denouncing the irresponsible reporting) and then added, "Did she call you out by name? By NAME? I'm going to piss your friend off."

Therefore I take no responsibility.

And you shouldn't. It's apparently now between your love and I. I hold you responsible for nothing that happens.

I would like to point out, for the record, that I didn't "call you out"; I mentioned you, because you're married to one of only three Republicans in my personal history that I have a reason to respect. So I mentioned you by name, in the sense of, I didn't think such a thing could be explained even by a steadfast Bush fan.

All apologies if H isn't one of those.

That's all.

You just called me out personally. That was rude and out of line, and now I'm upset.. I've restrained from ever really responding to any of the things I've seen here, but that was going too far, and I'm responding here of my own free will, independant of Moon ( ... )

However, we do need to use what we can to win a war. To paraphrase clauswitz, you need to do all you can in war, because your foe certanly will. And if Iran has nuclear capability, it will be in bunkers. Protected bunkers. And there will be men guarding them. And missile trucks. And Iranian airplanes ( ... )

It's a pretty good rant, all things considered.

Now here's where you're wrong, since we're already here.

The Slate has this to say regarding the comment; Juan Cole mentions a separate source; others confirm it. I wasn't solely going by Seymour Hersh's comment, though that was the one I linked. Mention of this exploded in the blogsphere earlier this week, but much of it is tracing back to comments made early in 2006, or late in 2005, months before this week. It's not impossible for me to believe we might plan this, whether or not we would ever execute it. It's not impossible for me to believe that American might do this in Iran, because we did do it in Japan. And gee, weren't those years seen as a more democratic point in our history?

So don't assume I'm only going by Hersh's comment. I'm not. It's a larger issue than one man.

Second, no, I don't like Bush. I don't like Bush for many of the same reasons I didn't like Clinton, as it happens. But I don't identify as a Republican or as a Democrat. I hold beliefs from both ( ... )

It might amuse you to know that on my flist, the post immediately preceding yours used this icon. So there I was scrollin' along, and I see Mal smiling and saying and trap, and then I see Mal screaming trap right after.

It was a Zen moment.

...I also like the comics you linked to.

I love Jennie Breeden. She's a gem. I adore many online comics, but I have to say, she's one of my top three faves.

No? It's not good? Damn, I was actually looking forward to that.

I don't know if there's any meat-flavored candy on the market, but I'm sure someone on Archie McPhee's staff could answer a question on the topic. You should write them. :)
