Small Dilemmas

Two things that I have been REALLY looking forward to obtaining after graduation are a car and a dog. I've had my heart set on a Yaris and a Schnoodle, but I know that the Hyundai Accent would be cheaper and safer, and a puppy from a shelter would be cheaper and also be saving a dog's life. It's just that I think that the Yaris is much cuter than ( Read more... )

I went with a VW Jetta and a Pug. Neither were cheap.

Make sure to visit edmunds.com to get pricing information for whatever car you plan on getting. Being able to negotiate based on actual dealer pricing will probably save you a few hundred dollars if you shop around a little.

The dog is adorable. Though I know of people through work who had to get rid of their dog because they weren't home at consistent enough times to take care of it. Something to consider.

Um, death on wheels? I got a toyota avalon this weekend as a rental car and I thought it was awesome. Probably a little big for your tastes though considering the cars you mentioned.

I really like my VW Passat, though getting it in for service and warranty stuff seems to be a pain so far. Luckily I haven't had to deal with that much. Perhaps you would like the aforementioned Jetta, or even a Rabbit?

Yeah, a quick check of consumer reports for that category puts the cars in this order from best to worst (stopping at the yaris):

Nissan Versa 1.8 SL
Honda Fit (base)
Kia Rio LX (sedan)
Hyundai Accent GLS (sedan)
Scion xB
Toyota Yaris (base sedan)

But thats only really the road test scores.

I agree with the comment about the VW rabbit. I would get one of those if i was getting a small car.

As far as puppies go, go for the schnoodle. If you feel bad about not helping a shelter dog, just donate to a shelter until you feel better ;p.
