Canada's eternal winters

Nov 27, 2005 09:26

I've been reading SGA fic. And I've been thinking. And, I'm no Canadian, but speaking as someone who gets a lot of surprised expressions when explaining that, yes, we do actually have summer where I live and, no, I don't live in an igloo, it's gotta be pretty frustrating for all the Canadian fans to see all the fic set in Canada. During winter ( Read more... )

Teehee.

I might have been wearing braids around you at some point. If so, you should feel honored, because that's a rare rare thing.

and people don't spend several months of their lives in a constant, shivery state.

You couldn't prove it by me, judging by the September to May OMFG SO COLD ICE ON MY EYELASHES posts by the folks in northern Canada who are on my flist. *g*

Well, there are always people who like cold less than others, of course, wherever you are in the world. :) But man, they have to have some crazy temps to get icey eyelashes. I've just gotten that once, and that was on our one freak -40 degrees (C) day a few years ago.

it looks like a big country on the map and feels even bigger when you drive across it. sure, we gots "weather", but it changes more than the time zones.
i read a sga fic where rodney and john go to earth and visit rodney's sister jeannie in vancouver. rodney shovels the driveway! it hardly ever snows in vancouver, it mostly just rains.
le sigh.

Maybe for like, five days, over christmas, sometimes,it snows in Vancouver, but you're right. It would've been so much better if the author had set it in say, the Kutenais, where we get like five feet of damp, damp snow for like, three months out of the year.

I totally get that. Sounds like Vancouver is kinda like Stockholm, it gets pretty chaotic there when they get a lot of snow. I do think they get it, though, just not as much as here, up North.

I'm kinda lurking around audrich's f-list and I found this and just had to reply.

My first response?
Would so totally be to point out to these authors that those nice outdoorsy eps of SGA with the sun shining are filmed in Canada.
