For the manga's sake I hope you're right. I've long ago decided in my fic that Sasuke's playing along but for that to be true in canon would make Naruto really really happy, and a happy Naruto would make me really really really happy in turn. ;-; Heck, reading this made me really happy already!
We have a quote in Filipino we like to say when we hope what a person is saying comes true: Magdilang-anghel ka sana. Translated roughly, it becomes May your tongue be that of an angel's.
I reckon there is more to it, but as I've decided long ago too, I'd trust Kishi to take care of Sasuke (even if all he's shown me is how crappy he is). So, misgivings and not-following-the-manga-but-loving-to-hear-spoilers aside, I'd stand by Naruto's crazy Uchiha. Love him or hate him, there's no Naruto without Sasuke.
"Love him or hate him, there's no Naruto without Sasuke." That should be carved in stone :D
With this chapter, I could finally let myself believe Kishi would take care of Sasuke, too. So far, I have had my doubts. It IS shonen, a lot of people do hate Sasuke... But Sasuke used to be Kishi's fave character (I don't know whether he changed :D)
There isn't much left till the end of Naruto, anyway (around 2 years?). We'll know soon enough. ^_^
(No matter how much I dislike Naruto lately, I know I will be in a shock for a month when it ends. It is the first unfinished manga I have read... The first unfinished anime I saw... It was what really got me into fandom after a big pause, yaoi, manga, all that... And it is a good story, with all its flaws. I'll miss it dearly)
I'm not so sure about the Sasuke-hate, in all actuality - far as I know, Kishi's target audience (those tween boys of Japan) are avid Sasuke fans, with him being all cool and dark and powerful. I've always thought the Sasuke-hate campaign's only happening out West
