What's the problem with calling Amy 'Williams'? It's original when Rory is called 'Pond', but as far as I know, in England, it's always the wife who takes the husband's name (unlike in Japan where the other way is possible).
I've never liked the idea of people having to give up their names and sort of part of their identity just to be part of a marriage, it feels too much like telling women that they're now their husband's property. I also have issues with how it's done in Spanish-speaking countries (adding a 'de', of after your first last name and adding the husband's first last name after that), but it's thankfully falling in desuse and only old ladies write their names like that anymore.
And since most people don't change their names here, to me a couple with the same last name sounds like they're siblings!
Rita was adorable though, and I nominate her for future companion. Death? What death?
Ahaha I know. This is the response that all of fandom seems to be having, and I agree. :D (Especially since she was named Rita. That was pretty odd for me.)
