Ok, up to episode 10 of the Vampire Diaries. It's gotten much better now that people don't write in their bullshit diaries anymore, and now that it isn't as horribly cheesy. Plot's good so far. Elena and Stefan are so boring together though. I can't help but think of Buffy at times - that time when Buffy was kissing a vamped-out Angel in the ice- ( Read more... )

Omg I know. I LOVED buffy/angel when I was a teen. Probably like teens now love bella/edward (only so much better)
Glad to hear VD picks up. Am hoping to re-start it tonight.

Yeah, but I don't think it was ever as cheesy as Bella/Edward, and I guess it was stated several times that it wasn't the healthiest of relationships? Not to mention them breaking up after all. They were so EPIC, though. SIGH. I miss that wow factor Buffy had, that no other vampire show has had since.

Tell me what you think afterwards! Ep. 3 was particularly vile. Around ep. 7 or 8 it starts getting better.

Elena/Stefan remains kind of boring, imho. They manage to have a pretty healthy, well-adjusted relationship despite all the mess around them, and we all know how exciting healthy, well adjusted relationships are on screen. :P Fortunately, as the show's focus shifts from romance to plot, the fact that their relationship is boring matters much less because it's just a background thread keeping them sane and both of them get plenty of more interesting relationships with other people.

Man, the Angelus storyline was so awesome. ♥

Ha, you're definitely right. I do have a thing for pretty unhealthy relationships in fiction, as long as they're acknowledged as so! Plot's always preferable to cheesy couply stuff on tv, so I'm excited about what's to come. I'm surprised they dropped the crappy 'writing in diaries' thingy, considering the title, but boy am I glad of it.

It was such brilliance that it happened after they slept together. It messed Buffy right up, but it was amazing storytelling. And Drusilla and Spike when they were horribly evil! Delicious.

My sister's really into the Vampire Diaries, and since I got her into Buffy she's been trying to return the favor...but, I just can't do it. Buffy's, like, my go-to vampire canon, and every time something non-Buffy happens on VD, I tend to point it out and then things get miserable. So, kudos to you for succeeding where I failed: Buffy's vamps will always be the only vamps for me :-)

(Also, although I agree with you that the "What's left?" "Me." moment was epic...I was always more on Xander's "Kick his ass" side of that whole relationship...don't hate me)

Ah, well, it helps that I've had a thing for vampires always! (I guess since I read the Vampire Chronicles pretty young, lol) but Buffy's definitely the favorite of them. Have you seen those icons of Buffy staking Edward Cullen? BRILLIANCE. actually, there's a video of that, if I remember well. MMM. I just hate this recent attempts into making vampires cuddly, sparkling fountains of virtue and marble-y gorgeousness. SUCK IT, TWILIGHT.

Oh, Xander was definitely on the right, but at the same time, I'm a sucker for unhealthy relationships in fiction, as long as they're acknowledged as so. :D

As far as Twilight goes: the same sister who's rabid over VD, dragged me to opening night at an IMAX theater in NYC for 'New Moon'. I don't read the books, and oh my lordy....I had so many places to point out where "they got it wrong, that's not how it was on Buffy"...and I may or may not have had a bucket of popcorn chucked in my general direction, for all the corrections I made to S. Meyer's wrongness...

Also, I always thought it was really funny how, in season one, Giles is like, "A vampire in love with a Slayer? How poetic"...or something like that. I don't remember the exact quote. ;-)

Maybe because David Boreanaz was ridiculously good-looking? I have to admit, I think that's part of the reason I shipped them. ;) And oh my god the Angelus storyline -- good memories. Well, painful, heartbreaking memories, in the best way possible.

F*CK YEAH ANGELUS.

Indeed, that is all that needs to be said about Buffy/Angel.
