To me, any sympathy for the potential of 'exposing stereotypes' ended when he deliberately assaulted a homophobe whom it's been highly suggested was molested as a youth. Homophobia is a blight, but you don't fucking make a sexualized invasion of space on someone who even -might- have been molested. (Even if said person makes "lyrical" sexualized attacks on women and gays. Perpetuatethecyclemuch?)
I suppose, though, I never watched Borat and never wanted to; embarrassment 'humor' squicks the hell out of me, so Bruno was unlikely to get any further.

He just flat out ISN'T FUNNY. I didn't like Ali G, Borat, or Bruno. Never mind whatever "message" (if you can call it that) he's trying impart to the masses, it's just a poor pathetic movie that unfortunately is going to do well at the box office. Chalk it up to people in hollywood who can't seem to write a decent story.
You want a movie that pokes fun at racism in a humourous way: Blazing Saddles.
You want a movie that pokes fun at homophobia in a humourous way: But I'm a cheerleader
I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY. People keep saying SBC does a sophisticated social critique, but I can't find it amongst all the bigoted bullshit. (He also doesn't seem to understand that you can completely accept someone's sexual orientation, race, and what-have-you, and still think that, as an individual, they're a total douchebag.)
I also dislike his methods--setting people up to be embarrassed always rather hurts me. And he apparently screwed over the place he made Borat's "hometown," too--and made them very, very angry. That's not good comedy.
