One overdue stroke, one premature death

Sorry to read the news. Strokes run in my dad's family; they can be really jarring for everyone since it's not just physical - but memory, emotional swings, all sorts of stuff in the brain get altered and the person you knew can suddenly be very different. Don't have much experience with them, except that my mom has had a few small ones (and on the plus side stopped smoking). I got to talk to him on the phone which made it all seem better, even though he wasn't entirely "there".

If there's a fortunate side to the personality change, it seems to have brought out a very cooperative, sweet, gentle side of him (it was always there, but behind the hard-nosed farmer)

Thanks so much for the condolences.

I'm sorry, Neil. I hope that your grandfather makes as much of a recovery as he is able to, and I hope your other friend finds a new job and peace with the loss of your friend. *hugs*

Lisa's a fighter, not to mention a Jew and a New Yorker; she'll manage. I'll swing by while in town if I can, but I'll only be there ~36 hours.
