The Reason Why......

"If Brown (vs. Board of Education) was just about letting Black people into a White school, well we don’t care about that anymore. We don’t necessarily want to go to White schools. What we want to do is teach ourselves, teach our children the way we have of teaching. We don’t want to drink from a White water fountain...We don’t need a White water ( Read more... )

While I understand and accept 'some' of this argument ... I, as a white, find it somewhat offensive to be generically included among the necon landscape.

I am ... far from such :P

"And ultimately the White way, the American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to our own destruction"

Just that, in tying all this together, you imply that white=neocon ... that's all :P

Not a critique, just a critical observation :)

I know you are referring to dominant ideologies ... but still: we don;t all agree with such, even when we are white :P

interesting observation.

i didnt write this, though i endorse its message wholeheartedly; so i guess any implication of its ideology on my part is through secondary means only.

im still not sure how you are relating white to neocon (im assuming you mean neo-conservative?)....

the thing about whiteness, see, is that you can be white and not agree with its paradigm and yet the consequences of its ideology are still real and apparent.

"the thing about whiteness, see, is that you can be white and not agree with its paradigm and yet the consequences of its ideology are still real and apparent."

I think it is a mistake to stake this as 'white-man' ideology. It (it being capitalist neocon ideology) is dangerous, indeed leading us all along the road to perdition. However, I still see a danger ... in prescribing the effects of a dominant ideology to all members of a particular class. There are many ways to be marginalised in society - and not all of them revolve around the paradigm of racial differentiation.

This is not to say that 'modern consumer society' doesn't have much to answer for - just try to avoid labelling that society as white. Why? Because, when we do that, we just deflect attention away from the real causal issues.

nevertheless the dominant economic and social paradigm we are discussing is european (ie white) in origin and practical application. the culture is a white culture; its origins being rooted in europe and european culture. capitalism as we know it today(the protestant ethic & spirit of capitalism by max weber is an excellent discourse on the roots of this particular economic system) is, in fact, a product of european, aka white, culture.

you would probably be better off pursuing this thread at debunkingwhite. they talk a lot about what you are discussing and will probably be better able to help you to understand how pervasive the whiteness paradigm is and how deeply rooted it is at sub-structural as well as super-structural levels.
