One nice thing about summer in the South

It may be hot as hell, and we may be heading into triple digit temps this weekend, but I'm sitting here eating a salad of home-grown, sun-warmed red, yellow and orange tomatoes drizzled with really good balsamic vinegar.

Summer has its moments. ;)

You're killing me.

We got done with May and fortunately the Dust Bowl is over for the moment -- driest May since 1934. But it hasn't been exceptionally warm, and with last Saturday and Sunday's all-day rain (say hallelujah!). . . I've wanted to turn the heat on in the house. Srsly, it's been highs of 65.

Boy, we could use some rain down here too. Seems like it's been really cool up north so far. Not down here. Supposed to be 102 on Sat and high 90s for the foreseeable future. Which means that while everyone else's tomatoes will start coming in, mine will be shriveling in the heat. Ah well.

Ditto here in Austin. Just picked the first ripe tomato from our garden yesterday :)

Yeah, it was a bit cooler north of here. I got the first cherry tomatoes last month, but this week they've really been coming in. I think I've got about 15 big ones in various stages of ripeness on the windowsill. I'm going to see if I can keep the cherry and pear tomatoes going thru the heat this year. *crosses fingers*

PS -- your carrot was hysterical. ;)

Oh wow, you just made me hungry.

My favorite snack as a kid was to cut up one of the big, round tomatoes from our garden and eat it raw with just some salt and pepper. It was paradise.
