This is like when ppl try to play with / pet working dogs. It redefines personal space. Also not all ppl who use a wheelchair are paralyzed. My almost 90 yr old mom uses them at airports all the time.

My step-mom often had similar problems. She had MS and, simply put, she had good days and bad days. Sometimes she’d still bring a cane along even when she didn’t need it, just to avoid trouble. Really, people should either offer to help or mind their own business.

Excellent PSA. A friend of mine wrote a similar story as a facebook post once, and it was the first time I'd ever thought about it. I think it's that horrid term, "wheelchair bound," that gets this subconscious thing in people's heads that anyone using a wheelchair has no use of their legs. It's ridiculous in the light, but so many things are.
