Nice mix of friendship and action/adventure, and a great OMC. It could have been a series ep!

You hit Ronon and John's friendship dead on and I muchly enjoyed Ronon's insight to John's way of thinking.

Dalus felt exactly right as someone from Ronon's past. I agree with rubygirl29, this could have been a series episode!

Aw, thanks, sweetie! I'm a big fan of John and Ronon friendship but it was kind of a departure for me so I'm so glad the story worked for you. I wanted to peel back a little layer of that other side of Ronon and Dalus was just the right means. So glad you enjoyed the story.

There are so many things I love about this story! John and Ronon, the knife/drinking game, the careful glimpses into Ronon's past. But I think Dalus broke my heart a little. He gave so much to Ronon, both the boy and the man, including saving John's life. I'm glad he died among friends.

Wonderful story, and yes, it would have made a terrific episode.

Thank you, hon. For everything! One of my notes scribbled after that first draft read: "Dalus needs to be more Robert Duval, less Obi Wan." He was a lot of fun to write. And while action is not my forte, I can see myself trying this again.

It figures that Satedan drinking games involve knife throwing and blood loss. *g*

I really liked the easy and steady friendship between John and Ronon in this, and the insight into Ronon's past and Satedan culture that Dalus offered.

Well, there was the drinking game that involved Satedan history, but John called them on that one right away. *g*

I'm so glad you enjoyed this - I really wanted to write this time around and figured a couple thousand words... All fretting aside, I enjoyed writing the story and participating. Thanks for putting this exchange on again and for your patience.

I'm going to have to resist the urge to repost all my favorite bits here, but these are some of the very best:

By now, even though Sheppard was only as much an open book as he allowed, Ronon knew some of the dog-eared and smudged pages by heart.

What an utterly beautiful sentence, as well as a dead-on accurate assessment of John.

Sheppard cut in, "What he's saying is part of Sateda's culture was saved by a brotherhood of religious fanatics who just happen to drop by uninhabited planets on their magical mystery tours. What we want to know is why?"

OMG, I could just hear him saying that--it gave me little shivers when I read it!

You are more than brute force… Whenever Melena said that to him, he believed it, didn't shy away from it. He had lived to prove it to her every day.

Oh Ronon. To have lost so much and then to continue to run from it even when he no longer has to.

"Truth or Dare meets strip knife play? That's not even close to my current kink list." He blinked at Ronon. "You're kidding, right?"Well, of COURSE, Satedan ( ... )

What a lovely comment - thank you!! As the action/adventure thing really isn't my long suit, I had mixed feelings about the effectiveness of the story. You've picked out a few of my favorite things here, so I feel better that my intentions were conveyed. The "magical mystery tours" was absolutely John - you probably heard his voice so well because it was in his voice that I heard it.

Dalus' mission was to find a sufficiently secluded place to spend his last days and to bury that most sensitive material. Ronon added another layer and Dalus got to face the end of his life doing something he'd loved so much, with someone who'd meant so much to him.
