Chapter 2
Kazuya was sitting on a couch and fidgeting restlessly. He threw glances at his surroundings and felt insecure. He reached for a glass of juice on the table in front of him and he tried to gulp it down his dry throat. He felt like smacking Jin for dragging him to a place that he was so unfamiliar with. He was so nervous and he wanted to go home badly. But then he saw a shadow approach him and he straightened his back immediately. He managed to let out a nervous smile.
“Hey there,” the guy greeted him and took the seat beside him.
“Hi, err, Yamashita kun,” Kazuya bowed his head slightly and smiled at the boy beside him
although the hint of nervousness didn’t leave him.
“It seems you remembered my name,” Yamapi chuckled.
“Ah, well, I remember most of the names in our class,” Kazuya replied.
“Good then! By the way, you can call me Yamapi,” he flashed a bright smile at Kazuya who smiled back at him.
“Well, Yamapi then,” Kazuya smiled softly.
“Better! So, aren’t you joining us? You could have a game with us rather than sitting here all alone,” Yamapi tried to invite Kazuya joining them with the billiard game which explained where they were now.
“Ah, I can’t play billiard. I’ll just watch from here. Don’t worry about me!” Kazuya gave him a bright smile.
At the same time, one of their classmates called out to Yamapi to get back to their game. Apparently, it was his turn. Yamapi got up from his seat and grinned at Kazuya before heading back to the pool table. Kazuya let out a relieved sigh and continued fidgeting on his seat. But soon, the empty seat beside him was filled by a certain person.
“They always wanted to talk to you,” Jin said without looking at the younger boy and he kept eyeing their friends.
“Eh?” Kazuya turned his head to him in confusion.
“They said you’re so calm and quiet. And they also said that you’re kinda cute. That’s why I brought you here,” Jin continued.
“They do think that way about me?” Kazuya’s eyes widened in shock, or rather disbelief.
“Well, yeah, apparently. Although I don’t see that in you,” Jin finally looked into Kazuya’s eyes this time.
“W-what do you mean?” Kazuya stuttered and tried to avert his eyes from the older boy.
“You’re not smiling from your heart. I can see that,” Jin said lightly.
Suddenly, fear came into Kazuya’s mind. He was feeling so anxious about the thought of being seen through. He looked at everywhere but the taller boy’s eyes. He was fidgeting even more restlessly by then. But Jin wouldn’t let him escape that easily. He turned the younger boy’s body so Kazuya was facing him now. Jin held his hands on Kazuya’s shoulder and once again, he looked into the brown orbs of the smaller boy in front of him.
“Why are you faking your smile, Kamenashi?” Jin stared into the pair of beautiful eyes in front of him.
‘What? He knows? How come? What should I do? That means they’ll know soon! And I can’t face them anymore! I don’t want the same thing to happen again! No! I don’t want it anymore!’ Kazuya screamed in his mind.
Kazuya felt the urge to cry suddenly. He was trying so hard to hide his feeling with his smile, but it was destroyed simply because of one sentence from the person he didn’t even like. He didn’t know why and how Jin knew about this. In fact, he just got closer to the boy today after their coincidental meet up at the hospital. He could feel the lump in his throat and how wet his eyes were. Jin’s eyes widened when he realized that Kazuya was ready to cry. He loosened his grip on Kazuya’s shoulders and tried to calm down the boy but Kazuya was already getting up and running away from him.
“Kamenashi!” Jin called out to him but the younger boy kept running. Jin had no other choice but chasing after him.
‘Damn! He’s a pretty fast runner!’ Jin panted while he was running after Kazuya. Finally, he could catch up the boy and grabbed his wrist to stop the younger boy from running. They stopped running and were panting to catch their breaths. Kazuya’s eyes were glinting with tears and he tried to brush them off. Jin just looked at him for minutes, watching the crying boy in front of him without doing anything. But then he tugged Kazuya’s wrist and dragged him out of that place.
“Let’s go, Kazuya!” Jin said. Kazuya stopped crying because he was kind of shocked. He let himself be dragged by Jin although he wanted to know where they would go now. Jin handed him the helmet and ordered him to hop onto his motorbike once again.
‘Kazuya? He just called me Kazuya? It’s the first time that someone actually calls me by my given name.’ Kazuya felt like blushing at the thought.
After Kazuya sat on the bike, Jin started the engine and they left the parking lot. Jin sped up his bike so Kazuya had to clutch onto Jin’s jacket. He peeked through Jin’s shoulder to see where they were heading to. After a while, he saw the edge of the road. He saw the sunrays glittering on the water. He was mesmerized by the beautiful sight. Jin stopped at the edge of the road. Jin brought him to a riverside. He usually walked past this riverside but he had never thought that it would turn into something so beautiful just because of the rays of the setting sun.
“It’s my favorite place,” Jin said and got off his bike.
Kazuya also got off Jin’s bike and walked closer slowly. Unconsciously, he smiled at the sight while whispering to himself how pretty the sight was in front of him. Jin looked at Kazuya’s smiling face and he found that the younger boy wasn’t faking his smile now. He let out a relieved sigh and smiled with him.
“Your smile’s cute. Keep smiling like that,” Jin said gently, brushing the shorter boy’s hair. Kazuya blushed when he realized what Jin had just said. He looked down embarrassedly. But the action only made Jin screaming cute inwardly.
“Let’s go home,” Jin reached out his hand to grab Kazuya’s and held it in his hand.
“Ah! I need to deliver the medicines to my mom!” Kazuya suddenly exclaimed.
“I’ll give you a ride there,” Jin smiled softly.
“No! No! You don’t have to!” Kazuya tried to refuse but he made a mistake by looking into Jin’s eyes.
“Okay, if you insist, take me there,” Kazuya looked down again in embarrassment.
‘How could I lose to those pleading eyes?’
He realized that Jin was still holding his hand but he didn’t mind it apparently. In fact, it felt nice and warm. Just the feeling of Jin’s hand calmed him down. They rode back on the bike and left that riverside. On the way to his mom’s and grandmother’s house, he clutched tighter to Jin’s side.

“Oh Kazuya! Thank you so much! You helped me a lot with this! You know that I can’t leave your grandma alone. Oh dear, I’m so sorry for making you live alone, but it can’t be helped. You’re really a good boy!” Kazuya’s mom kept on blabbering and barely noticed Jin who was standing behind Kazuya. But after some time, he realized that her son brought his friend along with him
“Ah! I’m so sorry! I didn’t notice you. Are you Kazuya’s friend? He rarely brings his friend home so it’s the first time I see his one of his friends!” Kazuya’s mom smiled brightly at the taller boy.
“Mom!” Kazuya blushed. “He’s my classmate.”
“My name is Akanishi Jin,” Jin bowed politely.
“He’s the son of the owner of Akanishi Hospital Centre and he gave me a ride to deliver the medicines,” Kazuya explained.
“Oh! You’re the son? Thank you so much for your father’s help all this time!” Kazuya’s mom bowed at Jin.
“It’s simply his job,” Jin smiled at the older woman.
“Well, mom, I got to go now. I’ll see you soon,” Kazuya wanted to go home badly.
“Okay then. And don’t forget to feed Ran-chan, Kazuya! Akanishi kun, please take care of my son,” she bowed lightly before waved them goodbye.
“Mom!”

“So you’re not living with your mother?” Jin asked him when they reached Kazuya’s apartment.
“She needs to take care of my grandma. She insisted on taking me along with her, but I refused. My grandma’s house is far from school and I like this apartment. Beside I can’t have Ran-chan when I live with her because she’s allergic to dog’s fur,” Kazuya explained.
“I see,” Jin smiled and looked into Kazuya’s eyes.
“W-what?” Kazuya felt uncomfortable under Jin’s gaze.
“It’s the first time I hear you talk so much,” Jin’s smile looked so gentle and sincere.
“Ah… err… I- I need to go now,” Kazuya looked down for the n-th time today.
“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night… Kazuya,” Jin ruffled the younger boy’s hair before starting the engine and leaving him.
Kazuya looked after the bike until it became smaller and smaller and finally gone from his sight. He didn’t know why but he tried to calm down the racing heart beat in his heart now. He entered his apartment and headed to the bed and threw his body on top of it. He closed his eyes and saw Jin’s smiling face.
‘I’ve been sending my S.O.S signals all this time and no one has ever noticed it but him. Akanishi Jin, how could you do it?’
