Related to my inmate's last post - we had an idea, and not just about that particular situation, but in general.

Normally, I'd take this to just the wardens, but I think it really does affect everyone, so I'll make it public.

At home, we have something called the Book of the Gone - where we keep records and testimonies to those who have died ( Read more... )

I do hope that they will agree. It sounds nice indeed.

I'm just hoping people don't think it'll be abused, which is... I guess, the only reason they'd object.

Yes. I would not like to see messages that possessed the foulest of language and insulted the character of those passed.

I mean, it is understandable that not everyone is going to be liked by everyone, but I think this is definitely one occasion where the Book of Common Sense should come into play.

At least call it 'departed'... I don't want to be remembered as a 'gone'.

Wardens:
A change of what?

Departed can work. I think... yes, gone is perhaps a little dispassionate.

Wardens:

The suggestion I made in public.

I didn't know if everyone would be comfortable discussing it in public, that's all.

Oh. Well, include the inmates. They want to make it private, they know how.

Fair enough. I'll go and change it around a bit.

Thanks for the input.

People really have to vote on these things?

I mean, I think it's a fine idea.

I think it's just... usual practice? I didn't want to assume anything, that's all.

That sounds like a great idea, Eddie. There should be a way to remember people who have gone.

Thanks. I thought so myself, and this seemed the fairest way.

I don't mind. But, sometimes people come back. And some people might get offended if you don't list people that haven't moved on of their own accord.

So uh... be careful with it. Whatever you do. [Though he figures he will anyway.]

I think you misunderstand me. I'm leaving it for people to put up something they like about anyone who's gone. For whatever reason. If people come back, I'll take anything written about them down and keep them safely.

I'm aiming to be as cautious as I can.

That's a pretty good idea.

Honestly, I think that whole opinion that people here don't matter is kind of bad for inmates that need to learn they do. Plus, it's a good idea just to have something to remember people by.

Well, I'm not sure anyone's entirely argued they don't matter... except the colourman and his associates

But I think this might have a lot more positives than negatives.
