So as you already know (or I'd imagine you do, anyway), last week U.S. Airways Flight 1549 was struck by birds after takeoff, compromising its engines. The plane went down in the Hudson river and everyone on board survived. There were only a few injuries and none of them were really critical. Yeah, I crapped out after the Cheney paragraph. You really should have put up a flashing message saying RANT, but maybe I was supposed to get that from the title "Some reasons that I hate journalism".

Anyway, before the speech, there was this cool quartet composed by John Williams called "Air and Simple Gifts"

Just heard this morning on the radio that they were just pretending to play. Apparently it was too cold to keep some of the instruments tuned, so they played a recording instead.

Yep. I didn't know at the time that I wrote this, but apparently they soaped the bowstrings to silence them and everything. I don't know why they didn't just do the performance indoors and broadcast it live onto the screens, thereby avoiding any potential Milli Vanilli jokes.
