Enjoy. It's a 2 1/2 minute trailer. You get to see all of the main characters, including Humble, Bobby, Johnny, Craig, Dr. Minerva, Craig's mom, Craig's dad, Smitty, Nia, and Noelle. I saw a screening of the movie last month and it's very beautiful and cool; I'll talk more about the specifics as we closer to release, in the meantime I am trying to keep info about the movie centralized
here. If you'd like to support the movie, the best thing you can do right now is give it your stamp of approval on the
Facebook page.
MTV also released production stills (i.e. photos from the movie). Here they are:
Zach Galifianakis as Bobby
Keir Gilchrist as Craig Gilner
Jeremy Davies as Smitty
Aasif Mandvi as Dr. Mahmoud
Emma Roberts as Noelle
Viola Davis as Dr. Minerva
Zoë Kravitz as Nia
Lauren Graham as Craig's Mom (Lynn in the movie)
Adrian Martinez as Jimmy
Jim Gaffigan as Craig's Dad (George in the movie)
An LJ community called
ohnotheydidnt picked up on the pictures and there's a spirited discussion going on
there (I'm very, very surprised how many people are familiar with the book!).
There's also some fun chatter on the
IMDB message boards (which sometimes don't load properly, good luck!).
I did want to address one thing: Noelle's scars. As people who have read the book know, Noelle in It's Kind of a Funny Story has scars on her face. She has them in the movie too -- they didn't really come out in the production still, though. I took a screen grab of the trailer to highlight how the scars are handled:
The character still has scars on her face in the movie. They show up prominently in both the "Under Pressure" scene and a rooftop scene. I just wanted to assure people that they're there. The makeup on the scars was handled by
Michael Marino.
Enjoy the trailer! Enjoy the pics! And stay tuned for more info about the movie.
In content aggregation/production news:
- I'm enjoying Consider The Source's 5/30/10 concert at StrangeCreek Campout.
- I read Bret Easton Ellis' Less Than Zero (saw the movie first, and I've seen the author a few times at public events in the last year, where he has laid waste to all comers) -- this novel does such a great job of parceling out horror.
- I saw Nimród Antal's PREDATORS -- Ebert's review is gospel.
Lots of content in for content out. I finished a rewrite of my new novel and I hope to have more to say about that soon.
