Why has it taken me so long to get round to watching 'Rome'? I bought the first series boxed set second hand and, wow, its the first time in years I've had a serious yearning to watch the next episode after watching one. The last time this happened was with Deadwood - well, up until series three where it became a task to watch episodes

It's not cheating. But don't *ever* buy guides. Use www.gamefaqs.com instead.

I dunno, I mean obviously the gamefaqs are cheap as free, but I do get a perverse pleasure over having a book that I frantically flip through to get the info I need.

Carnivale is so-so, the first few episodes are fan-fucking-tastic! then it starts to trail off towards the end of the series with really bad pacing and some lapsidasical mythology. The second series? I never got past the first three episodes. I'd not pay more than about £15 for a boxed set of the first series, it's only just worth that.

Deadwood The first two series are awesomesauce, I seriously can not get enough and have watched them several times over. The third series, massive let down. For the whole series its gearing towards a massive massive showdown that just doesn't happen. :(

Have you played the earlier ones? are they worth getting?

The only one I've played all the way through was 4, the one with Cecil, Kain and Rydia the green-haired chick. I really liked it. I'm not sure about the games prior to that, I think they started out really primitively. A lot of people swear by 6, the opening to that one is really beautiful.

I prefer them to re-release them with at best upgraded sprites like they've done on GBA and PSP (so far)rather than with 3-d like they seem to do on DS.
