You know...listening to those lyrics reminds me of one of the reasons why I prefer Dani/Nico to Dani/Matt. Nico can challenge her, frustrate her, and still have her back. And I think that's what she needs.

Yes. That's one of the reasons I like them better to (also because I personally can't stand Matt), but I really like how Nico's relationship with her has more depth. He does all of that with her, frustrates her and challenges her, but he's also there for her, even when she doesn't know it. It's... great, even if they're only friends. :)
