A creepy realization about Star Wars.

In the novelization of The Phantom Menace, Anakin announced to Padme that he was going to marry her one day.  You could kind of see that attitude in the movies.

Now, I never quite understood why she married him, because he was too young, too rash, too uncultured, and too obsessive. (No, I didn't really like Anakin in the movies.  How can you tell?

Yes. And it makes sense, given how fast the relationship happened.

Well that would be disturbing. It's also kind of disturbing that he looked up to her when he was a little kid and then a few years later they're hooking up.
I didn't read the book, but in the movie, they do seem to be falling in love. She obviously loves him in Ep.1, but I think she's IN love with him in Ep. 2. And love does not take into account if someone is rash, uncultured, showing homicidal tendencies, etc. So it's possible the force had nothing to do with it.

My problem is that given her position, she must've had some sort of relationship experinece and just general people experience overall. Anakin was making her uncomfortable, and he was pushy. Within 30 minutes of the movie, they're kissing. There was almost no build-up for the relationship and suddenly she's in love with him. I could never see why, because nothing about him was stable.

I'm not a huge fan of SW, but I thought it was kind of weird as well. BUt if you're thinking is correct, that would be disgusting. I don't like men who manipulate women.

If he did influence her, the question would be if he did it on purpose, or if it was just driven by how much he loved/wanted her.

I can definitely see him influencing her, and it *would* explain the flimsy foundation for their relationship. My theory is that he did so unconsciously at first, driven by his desire for her (I don't say it's love; I think Padme was almost more an addiction for him). However, I can also see him realizing at a later date that her devotion is the result of his manipulation, and being crushed by that, but not being able to stop manipulating her. He's obsessed enough by then that he simply continues down this path (for Anakin has never been one to turn from a wrong path).

And lol to Amber's "showing homicidal tendencies." ;-)

In a lot of ways, I'm wondering if it was also a rejection of the Jedi creed. In the first movie, they originally said that Anakin would not be trained, and Anakin looked upset by that. Even though he was eventually accepted, that original 'no' had to really stick with him. Especially since he was older than most kids trained, he was starting late and everything. That may have been another reason why he latched onto Padme so fiercly -- for Jedi aren't supposed to love like that ( ... )

This is not related to the thread at all, but I just rewatched X-men (the first movie) and WHY IS IT THAT I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO THINKS THAT ROGUE AND WOLVERINE ARE TOTALLY MADE FOR EACH OTHER????? Can you guys have a movie night to dissect the dynamic of their relationship too?

Lol. I will admit that there's a definite connection between the two. The fan fiction produced by those two alone after the movie came out proves that you aren't the only one thinking so. But, her age aside, and if she just turned 18, it wouldn't be a problem, there wasn't anything creepy in this, like Wolverine telepathically manipulating Rogue. What we saw there was what was there.
