SyFy's AniMonday Adds Motion Comics

Aug 15, 2009 23:25

SyFy's online schedule has been updated to inform us what will be filling up time in its AniMonday block starting in late September. The two current series on AniMonday, Gundam 00 Second Season & repeats of Rave Master, will both come to an end on September 21, along with the short film "Negadon: the Monster from Mars." So what will be replacing the two shows beginning the following week? Some rather... interesting choices.

The frequently aired "Street Fighter Alpha: Generations" film will be filling up the first hour of the lineup on September 28. Meanwhile, the second hour is scheduled to air anime "motion comics"- First "Street Fighter Motion Comic" episode 1 at midnight (Eastern/Pacific), followed by "Voltron Motion Comic" episode 1 at 12:30. A motion comic, for those who don't know, is a hybrid of comic books (manga in this case?) & animation. The program basically takes scans of a comic & adds slight animation to it. Perhaps the most famous example of this is the Watchmen Motion Comic. Or for a more anime-specific example, check out Viz's recent One Piece motion manga.

As to what a Voltron or Street Fighter motion comic will be like, or why SyFy would even show something like that, I haven't the slightest. I've never even heard of motion comics for those two series, & searching for such results in nothing substantial. Is this really the best programing AniMonday can offer? & October's schedule, which should've been online by now, for some reason hasn't been added yet. Guess we'll find out on September 28 as to what's really going on.
