Today, Viz Media officially launched both of their new free online manga magazines-
Sig Ikki &
Shonen Sunday.
Sig Ikki is probably the more ambitious of two, being devoted solely to mature & adult manga titles (no, not THAT kind of adult) with 9 series being a part of the magazine already. In addition to the latest chapter of Children of the Sea, the first chapters of Bokurano, Dorohedoro, I'll Give It My All... Tomorrow, & Saturn Apartments were all added today as well. Not to over do things on the first day, the first chapters of Afterschool Charisma, House of Five Leaves, Kingyo Used Books, & Tokyo Flow Chart will all launch next week. Now that Ikki has been officially launched, it wont be posting new chapters of every title every week, as Children of the Sea has done until now. Each series will only post one new chapter a month, though there will still be new chapters every single week. The series will just rotate when new chapters come out.
Shonen Sunday launched with 5 titles, though one of them is Rin-ne which has already been
simulcasting new chapters every week. Besides that, the first chapters of Arata: the Legend, Hyde & Closer, Maoh: Juvenile Remix, & Kekkaishi were all added today to the new site. For Kekkaishi, Viz has already released the first 17 volumes in American stores. But regarding the other three titles, this is the first time they've ever been officially released in English. More titles are expected to be added soon. The exact online release schedule is a bit unclear at this time for Shonen Sunday, but Viz does promise to have something new every week.
