Tezuka Predicted Japan's Earthquake

Jun 14, 2008 23:39

Yesterday morning at 8:45am, a devastating 7.0 earthquake hit the island of Honshu, which is in the northeastern part of Japan. Three people have been declared dead so far, with at least 84 others injured. All really terrible news, indeed. But there's something really eerie about this all, & it relates to the world of manga.

In the classic Black Jack manga by Osamu "God of Manga" Tezuka (Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Phoenix) that was originally published in the 1970s & 80s, Tezuka wrote about an earthquake that had the exact same time, date, & location as the real earthquake that struck Japan yesterday. This happened on page 104 of volume 17 in the long running series. The only difference between the two is that he wrote it as having a magnitude of 7.5, instead of 7.0. That aside, that is truly some freaky stuff.
