So ever since Nickelodeon announced that M. Night Shyamalan would be working on a live-action
Avatar: the Last Airbender movie trilogy, fans have wondered what they'll be doing about the name since only James Cameron has the rights to the film name "Avatar." Well now word comes out the first film, due out in theaters on July 4, 2010, will simply be called "the Last Airbender." Cameron's Avatar, which is unrelated to the Nicktoon franchise, will be released first on December 18, 2009.
In other news, the Weinstein Company have started their new Asian Film Fund section for movies, & one of their first works will be a remake of the 1954 black-and-white Japanese classic, "Seven Samurai." This new version will begin filming later this year & is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2009. In recent years there was an anime adaptation of the story called "Samurai Seven," which aired on American TV on IFC.
