DVD of the Week

This week, FUNimation is finally releasing a boxset of one of their more unlikely titles of recent years, Moon Phase! If you haven't seen this series yet, then I highly recommend it. & now that it's available in boxset form, what better time? & while I do think it's an excellent series, you should know what you're going into beforehand.

There's a lot of ways to describe this show about a cute little vampire girl with cat years, who moans "nyaaan" to her "onichan." As can be observed from right there, the main girl Hazuki is very moe, & there's a lot of fan-service of her acting like the lolita she is with trick camera angles that make it look like she's leaning in to kiss the viewer or what have you. Hazuki herself can kinda be considered a tsundere, but more so she appeals to the emouto (little sister) fans of anime, so that's her main "charm." But she's also a gothic lolita, so there's a lot of dark & creepy scenery going on at times. It's all pretty niche, which is why it's always seemed weird to be a Funi title. AZN Television is curreently airing the series, presumably for one last time before it goes off the air. So get a taste of it there if you haven't yet, & then run out to buy the series boxset!

Another box set that's coming out this week is something that may appeal to NebsTV fans- the original Agent Aika OVA. Bandai recently took over the license of this classic series from the 1990s & are now re-releasing it in a cheap box form. Last year, we showed the first episode of the prequel series "Aika R-16: Virgin Mission" on the site, which Bandai will also be releasing later this year. The original may be older, but it's still loaded with tons of fan-service.

FUNimation is releasing two other boxsets this week as well. One is Black Cat, a Shonen Jump anime based on the popular futuristic-yet-noir-like manga. The other is Solty Rei, which I don't think I could describe if I tried. Funi is also releasing the final volume of the first season of School Rumble, which is by far one of the best anime comedies ever created. Aside from that, they're also re-releasing 2 more volumes of the first Negima series in their cheap Viridian packaging.

& finally in terms of NebsTV shows, the final volume of Venus Versus Virus is coming out this way via ADV, who is back on their release track for the most part. I'm glad they only released the series on 3 volumes, instead of being evil & released the 12 episode series on 4 DVDs (which is actually far more common then it should be). & also, another volume of Bleach! But considering the on-going length of the series, these will be coming out for a LONG time.
