Evangelion 1.0 Licensed... in Australia

Feb 10, 2008 00:01

Australian licenser Red Ant Enterprises has been the first Western company to license the first new Evangelion movie You Are [Not] Alone for DVD. The film has actually already started running outside of Japan in Korean theaters, but it being licensed in Australia makes it the first time it'll be available in an English speaking country. There's no word yet on if Red Ant plans on having the movie dubbed for DVD release. I believe Australia had used ADV's dub of the television series for Eva, so it's possible they may try to find a way to use them for this project. It's also possible they might dub it with new actors or decided not to dub it at all. No release date has been set, but it's likely to come out in either 2008 or 2009.

In slightly related news, Gainax (Eva, Wings of Honneamise, Gunbuster, Nadia, FLCL) has put out a staff recruitment ad in Japan for animators in an upcoming secret project. The ad states that it's for their upcoming project "Gonyogonyo (Mada Himitsu)" ["Mumble-mumble (It's still secret)"]. Gainax actually isn't involved in the new Evangelion movies, which are instead done by director Hideaki Anno's new studio. Some fans have begun speculating that it might be for a second season of their latest series Gurren Lagann, but nothing is really known for sure.
