Lupin VS Lupin
It was announced awhile ago that a new Lupin the 3rd special would be released in Japan this year, called "Green VS Red." But until now, it wasn't known what the plot would be about. It has now been revealed that the plot will actually be... green jacket Lupin VS red jacket Lupin. Yes, that's right- Lupin against Lupin.
When the Lupin the 3rd anime series started out in the 1970s, Lupin wore a red jacket. This Lupin was a lot like James Bond, chased after girls, shot bad guys, & was a high-class thief. But when the legendary Lupin movie "Castle of Cagliostro" from Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle) came out, Lupin was given a green jacket. This new jacket stuck around for awhile after that, as did Lupin's slightly different personality. This Lupin was a gentleman first & a thief second. He was also a lot nicer & focused a lot on rescuing damsels in distress. Since then, fans have hotly debated which Lupin is the true and/or best Lupin. There was even an episode of FLCL with the characters discussing this as well.
But now the two different Lupins will meet face to face for the first time. What does this exactly mean? Has there always been two different Lupins & we didn't know it? Is it some kind of multiple dimension cross-over? An experiment gone wrong? What ever it is, we'll be eager to get answers once this special comes out, that's for sure. This is sure to be an epic face-off like no other.
