On Death Note and Canada

Canada & Viz's dub of Death Note seem to go hand-in-hand in the news lately. A few months back it was announced that the new series would be airing on Canada's YTV this Fall. More recently, Viz unveiled that the dub would be using the Ocean Group voice actors to do the dub. & now YTV has pulled the series off it's schedule completely.

It turns out that even though they announced it months ago that they'd be airing Death Note this September & that even as of a few days ago it was still scheduled to air this week, YTV has yet to confirm that they'll be broadcasting it yet. What? They waited till the week of to realize they had a problem on their hands? Sounds like someone was procrastinating in their little Canuck TV station. You'd think it'd be easy for them to broadcast the series, considering that the dub is recorded there after all.

Which brings us to the point of the story where we announce who the VAs for the dub are. We may have gotten a sample of the dub when a hidden trailer was found online, but now we got the actual actors listed. Among the main cast, Light will be voiced by Brad Swaile (Amuro in Gundam, Lan in MegaMan), L will be Alessandro Juliani (Gaeta in Battlestar Galactica, Prince Toma in Ranma 1/2 Movie), Ryuk by Brian Drummond (Allen in Escaflowne, Andy in Gundam Seed), & newcomer Shannon Chan-Kent will be playing Misa. The rest of the cast is as follows:

  • Rem - Colleen Wheeler
  • Soichiro Yagami - Chris Britton
  • Matsuda - Vincent Tong
  • Mogi - John Murphy
  • Raye Penber - Michael Adamthwaite
  • Aizawa - Trevor Devall
  • Ukita - Jeremy From
  • Naomi Misora - Tabitha St. Germain
  • Ide - Brian Dobson
