Director Leaves Kyoto Animation

Jul 08, 2007 20:11

Continuing with the vast amount of Haruhi related news that's been coming out, this is actually a bit of troubling news for the new season. Yutaka Yamamoto was a director at Kyoto Animation, & did a lot of other work behind the original season of "the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" as well. He did the scripting, storyboarding, & production work for the series, which basically means he did more than half of the work for the entire show.

Yutaka was also originally chosen as the director for Lucky Star as well, but after 5 episodes Kyoto Animation took him off the project for failing to meet expectations. While true that Lucky Star seemed to get better without him, it can't be denied he did wondrous work on Haruhi. Now word comes out that he's quit Kyoto Animation entirely. This of course comes around the same time as the Haruhi Season 2 announcement. Fans were really hoping he'd continue his great work in the next season, but now the show will have to go on without him. How this will affect the show, if at all, remains to be seen.
