FUNimation spent the past week announcing new licenses each day. While most of them weren't surprising since FUNi had released cease-&-desist letters for them awhile back, there were 2 shows that no one saw coming. One of them was former Nebs TV show "Itsudatte My Santa," the 2-part fanservice romantic comedy Christmas OVA by Ken Akamatsu (of Love Hina & Negima fame). Because it's now licensed, it has been removed from the NebsTV Archive. The other surprise was "Shuffle," a series based off of a hentai/dating game. While the series is sprinkled with fanservice, it's more known for it's surprisingly good story. This series may still air on Nebs TV yet.
The other licensed shows were Ragnarok: the Animation, Suzuka, Aquarion, & Mushi-Shi. Speaking of Mush-Shi, a live-action version of this amazing series was recently released in Japanese theaters, & has also been shown at the Sundance Film Festival this past week to raving reviews. The film has received several distribution offers to bring the film to America & other parts of the world.
FUNimation made a few other announcements as well, such as finally announcing a release date for their Tsubasa DVDs, which was announced as license for a whole year now. The date for the first DVD is May 22. FUNi also announced that they've acquired 3 shows from RightStuf. Shingu, Boogiepop Phantom (which originally aired on G4/TechTV's Anime Unleashed Block), & the NebsTV series 2x2=Shinobuden (or "Ninja Nonsense," as the dub is called).
