the Buu saga is arguably the series' low point, as Toriyama was kinda being forced to do it and sorta stopped caring. However, I feel it still holds some merit, not simply for still being part of the original manga canon, but because Toriyama, possibly due to his growing disdain, took the manga in more of light-hearted direction riff with self-parody. Seriously, just think about it: Great Saiyaman, a third level of Super Saiyan that basically just adds a ridiculous amount of hair, an enemy that turns opponents into candy, a fighting gumdrop, pretty much anything involving Gotenks, Mr. Satan getting some central focus, etc. Just view the saga with some of this intentional silliness in mind, and it's really quite amusing ( ... )

Toriyama wasn't forced to do anything. yamato_0 March 20 2011, 15:45:08 UTC
Toriyama actually had the most freedom with the Boo Saga. His new editor was less strict and let him do whatever he wanted. There's also no evidence he was forced to continue.

Still I do think the appropriate ending should've been Gohan killing Cell. It concludes the series nicely and the transition from father to son was great.

Nobody knows what will really happen to Kai! anonymous January 10 2011, 02:05:54 UTC
Assuming automatically that Kai is ended with no Buu saga in April is a little quick don't you think? As Hujio at Kanzentai said, there is three options for Kai:
1) It truly is cancelled.
2) It changes timeslots (that's happened to One Piece, why shouldn't Kai?
3) It goes on a short or long hiatus (which probably includes the timeslot change).
But, seriously. Don't go and make people go crazy with, "Oh, another show got the timeslot, so the show's cancelled, AHHHH!"
