There are titles that would NEVER have been brought to the US without the fanbase from the scanlations. Hikaru no Go for instance wouldn't have been licensed if the companies hadn't seen that it was already popular here.

I'm all for legal scanlations as well, but I fear how it's going to work out.

I'm pretty sad specifically that OneManga's being shut down. While there's still other places for scanlations (such as MangaFox), OneManga's felt the most professional and on top of itself-- which really helped me since MangaFox has given me malware before, while OneManga's tended to send out alerts if they found out something was up with an ad. I found that respectable.

If they make some kind of official scan site then I'll use it. But don't keep history on me.

There are a lot of manga that would never come here. I'm sure we all know one that was going to but stopped.

This is just an annoyance.

The harder them companies push... anonymous July 26 2010, 20:25:28 UTC
The two possibilities emerge from it~
ONE: More people get tired of manga and interest bleeds away to more accessible media, resulting in the further Destruction of an already shaky environment of releasing legal wares.
TWO: People just get Fucking tired of this bullshit and bury their illegal activities into more difficult areas of the interweb that those mentioned companies could Never Ever find. No problem for them since by then, the Massive Loss of revenue out of the wares UN-sold there in America puts them All in the bloody Red to a point where only specialized Manga with ninjas and skin reign in small -soon to be going out of business- niche stores for funny books weirdly drawn mostly naked marvel and dc "girls" with 'tude...
