Adult Swim Gets New Anime in February
For the first time since August 2008, Adult Swim will actually be getting a brand new anime series. Possibly even two or three, for that matter. After getting rid of Death Note & Blood+, Adult Swim announced in one of their bumps that "We're just clearing house for goodies from our last Tokyo visit. We can't tell you anything yet, but we think we bought three series [maybe]." A later bump that was about season & series premieres had two "Show We Can't Talk About" titles- both for Saturdays. One was in February, & the other in September (the bump also announced that new episodes of Bleach would return in April). If there is a third new series, we might not see it in 2010.
But more recently, AS has updated their schedule to confirm that a "new anime" is set to begin February 13 at midnight (Eastern/Pacific time). It's an interesting time slot in that it will kick off the anime block & start it a half-hour earlier, giving Adult Swim the most anime it's had on a Saturday night since, again, August 2008. So what are the "new anime?" Well despite being new, it would make sense for AS to air series they know for a fact will do well. As such, "FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" may be the February series & "InuYasha: the Final Act" may be the September series. Brotherhood I particularly have a good feeling about, especially since they're pushing back the original FMA anime (their second highest rated anime) all the way to 4am, & from one-hour to a half-hour at that. Guess we'll wait & see, though. The new & improved Saturday anime schedule- complete with two full hours of Bleach (we'll definitely be getting new eps by April at that rate!)- below:
