It was one thing for the first episode of this season's new "Dance in the Vampire Bund" anime adaptation to be an original story not seen in the manga. It pretended to be a prime-time talk show/news report that explained the world of the Vampire Bund story, & it was only at the end of the episode that we even got a hint at what the manga is really like. But now the second episode has aired, & even though we've moved on to the actual story & plot, what was seen in episode two still greatly differed from what was seen in the manga.
Fans were confused as to why the anime seems to have taken the road of an original story rather than a typical straight-up adaptation. No one expects anime adaptations to pull a "Monster" (which is painstakingly identical to the manga, shot for shot & line for line), but to stray this far from the source material seemed odd. That was until manga-ka Nozomu Tamaki recently explained in the Radio in the Vampire Bund second episode that this was done per his own request. The following is a translated quote from the program:
When they decided to make Vampire Bund into an anime; I suggested them "you don't have to follow the manga; please do an original story" but Yoshino-san and Shinbo-san said they want to follow the manga since it's already good. I then asked them to challenge it by doing an original script but retain the manga's story as much as possible. I think we have done a good job to it, even me reading the script thinks it's interesting.
Additionally, Tamaki revealed that he is actively involved in this new anime version of his story. He participates in scriptwriting, supervising, & suggests changes from the scripts by Yoshino Hiroyuki (the screenwriter, who's also worked on the Mai-Hime, Code Geass, & Gundam Seed franchises).
Episode two also revealed that "Vampire Bund" isn't afraid to show uncensored loli nudity. Though to be fair she is actually like a thousand years old or something. Still though, one usually has to wait for the DVD release to see that sort of thing.
