Er, no. The Gun Debate is Corporatist Capitalism. If fuels both sides, literally. After a shooting incident, donations to both main political parties rise.

The "Left" see gun control as a way to decrease the seemingly endless violence. The "Right" quite accurately notes that gun violence has been on the decline for decades, despite the hype in commercial media.

Hype which, quite likely, exists to maintain the "debate" and keep the coffers of both parties filled for battle in the next election.

Dan Baum, author of Gun Guys, told the Democratic Party Elite to just give up the gun debate. Why?

If liberals thought they were weakening the enemy by smashing its idols, they had it exactly wrong. It was hard to think of a better organizing tool for the right than the left's tribal antipathy to guns. . . . America was full of working people who wouldn't listen to the donkey party-about anything-because of the Democrats' identification with gun control.

Never ever debate Gun Control before coffee.

You should also try that debate with any fairy tale liberal here in Europe. It always ends with a condescending "oh you Americans and your guns. We're not so primative here to need such things." Then I always say "ah, but soon. Very very soon, you're going to be wishing for those guns."
